Vision

We envision a world where plastic waste is perceived as a valuable resource that contributes to a circular economy for plastic, transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for sustainable development and community empowerment.

Mission Philosophy

Global Green’s 10-year mission is to keep us within safe planetary boundaries by integrating the shared interests of people, places, and the planet—a philosophy that grounds all Global Green Journeys initiatives.

30 Years of Non-Profit Leadership for the Planet

Since 1994, Global Green has served as the U.S. national affiliate of Green Cross International, founded by President Mikhail Gorbachev.

It was designed to serve as the “Red Cross for the Environment,” championing ecological protection and support with the same urgency and empathy.

With consultative status at the United Nations and recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Global Green focuses on disaster recovery, building sustainable communities, raising environmental awareness, and driving transformative climate action.

Global Green founded the “Global Green Alliance,” the “Millennium Sustainability Awards,” and the renowned “Pre-Oscar Gala” Green Carpet in Los Angeles.

Notably, Global Green collaborated with Brad Pitt on sustainable rebuilding projects in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, built a nationwide Green Schools and Food Waste Program, and partnered for over a decade with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Green Building Council (USGBC/LEED) to promote sustainable development in underserved communities in 32 cities across the United States.

Our central Hub ensures consistent quality and lasting impact, empowering every Sustainability Lab to effectively deliver with confidence and excellence.

Our Coalitions

We’re proud to be part of influential global coalitions that amplify our impact, expand our reach, share best-practices among partners and connect us with like-minded leaders driving meaningful change around the world.

The Global Tourism Plastics Initiative unites the tourism sector behind a common vision to address the root causes of plastic pollution. It enables businesses, governments, and other tourism stakeholders to take concerted action, leading by example in the shift towards circularity in the use of plastics.

The Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter (GPML) is a multi-stakeholder partnership that brings together all actors working to prevent plastic pollution and marine litter. By providing a unique global platform to share knowledge and experience, partners can collaborate to create and advance solutions to this pressing global issue.

#BreakFreeFromPlastic is the global movement working to achieve a future free from plastic pollution. More than 12,000 organizations and individuals around the world have come together to demand reductions in single-use plastics and to advocate for lasting solutions to the plastic pollution crisis.

Why Global Green Journeys

01

Nature in crisis

We need to truly understand environmental pollution consequences to avoid the worst impacts of plastic pollution and biodiversity loss.

Understanding the linkages between addressing biodiversity loss, climate change, and development will help us understand what caused this, and especially what actions have a positive impact.

02

Transitioning to Nature-Positive Economies

It is critical that we find creative approaches in order to mainstream natural capital.

Current economic and financial structures continue to support unsustainable patterns of consumption and the destruction of our precious environment, without which no economy can thrive.

03

Investing in nature

Mobilizing civil society organizations and local communities towards natural ecosystem services will be critical to avoid entering dangerous tipping points.

From the shadows of a nature-related global pandemic, the inherent risks of biodiversity loss are clear, as well as the opportunities emerging in nature-positive projects and solutions.
